Caramel Day on the Owyhee River
Earlier this year I had a ski trip fall through and I ended up not taking a vacation day at work. The weather was fantastic – so good that I decided to go fly fishing on the Owyhee River instead of backcountry skiing for a mental health day. I went fishing with my dog (Moose, who is a Pudelpointer). He was pretty good, but would only stay on the bank for 15 minutes at a time. After that he came crashing into the water looking for whatever was swimming around. Overall a great day in the middle of winter and not a bad week because I got to backcountry ski, mountain bike and fly fish all within 6 days. Oh yeah, I worked a bit in the middle of all that!
Here are some of the photos I snapped on the river:

So glad you had a great time, took some great photos and allowed us to look over you shoulder!

Gosh I though I knew my dogs but this is the first time I’ve heard of a Pudelpointer! Love the light and the whole scene in that first pic with your dog.
The first picture is the best! Beautiful…I am sure Moose is extremely with that as well! 🙂 Congrats on being Freshly Pressed!
Sounds like a good relaxing day! Your dog seems like such a character 🙂
Really i like the nice pics.. i love a lot of the nature pics
Your shots are great. Your last shot of your dog, ahem…. has an orb. It’s on the dog. A small circle which isn’t from your camera. I believe there was a spirit with your dog. And that’s a great thing :0

These past few years i’ve been an arm-chair traveler. Thanks for sharing this experience with me. Nice photos.
Years ago a giant hundred pound dog strayed into my life and I called him Troy. He went fishing with me and the first time I cast he jumped out of the boat. He knew instantly he’d made a mistake and wanted back in the boat. Tough job.
I want to visit here 🙂
Really beautiful photos. Thanks for sharing and congrats on being freshly pressed!
Nice pics! I would really like to know how you squeezed all that in. The last time my vacation fell through – it was two years later that I was able to enjoy taking another vacation.
Nice and pleasing to the eye, well done.
Love the wind swept field with mountains in the background shot.

Love your pictures! When I went hiking by the Snake River the other day, mine weren’t half so good. I blame it on the camera (my sister tells me it’s the person behind the camera…and that is mostly true…but I really hate my current camera and will continue to blame it; keep your camera away from mine–the disease might be infectious)
Gorgeous photo set! I love the tones & colors.

Beautiful pictures and adorable dog!
Great pictures
I absolutely loved your pictures! I definitely miss experiencing the open country and sloping hills. Although I’m not from Idaho and probably couldn’t point this river out on a map, it’s comforting to see such a great adventure. It gets me thinking of the benefits and a much needed vacation that needs to come soon. And I definitely support mental health days! They are the best and for an individual with an appetite for adventure and creativity – I have a feeling you fit that category – they are a necessity. I can’t wait to read more about your upcoming adventures!
Cheers to adventure, mental health days, and many more pics to come!

Wow wow wow! These photos are amazing!! What did you use to take them? Is there an effect in them? Great job 🙂
Ahh, I love that river! I remember the first time ever boating it and I flipped the gear boat (had never rowed a gear boat… ever) in the first rapid then got the hang of it. Sun, hail, snow, more sun… so fun! Thanks for sharing the photos and bring back memories.

Nice. Really really really makes me want to go outside and walk in the sun 🙂
Also, is their a reason for it being called Caramel Day? Because of the colours?
So glad I found this. This is so great. The pictures are marvellous.!
“Moose the puddle pointer” that is fantastic writing and glad you took a mental health day in the outdoors. I believe i more people spent some time outside less people would need depression meds. Keep up the great writing. Truly enjoyed reading this.
